Biology meets Math and Art at the IPMB  (12-27-2006)

The binary code in cell fate determination of rhizodermic cells represents an ideal model to study the effect of environmental signals on the redifferentiation of cells. Dr. Natasha Saint Savage from the Computational Systems Biology group at Sheffield University (UK) has developed a logic model for the patterning of cells in the root epidermis of Arabidopsis. Together with Wolfgang Schmidt at IPMB, Dr. Savage is currently refining this model to account for environmental signals that control cell fate changes.
