Better understanding of the rice genome will facilitate rice research, which in turn speeds up rice biotechnology. Accomplished and modest are two traits that are not often seen together. A colleague of my father wrote "Although he was brilliant plant biologist, Shang Fa was modest and unassuming colleague." And one of my chemistry mentors wrote to me and said "I was so touched that your father was so kind to me and down-to earth despite his professional stature and accomplishments."
