The mission of IPMB includes the education and training of the next generation of plant and microbial scientists to promote national science and education goals. This page provides links to information and resources for students and teachers at the pre-college high school, university graduate level and postdoctoral training levels.
You will find links to programs, projects, activities, and instructional materials that use the resources of IPMB labs to:
Provide mentored research experiences for students and teachers;
Improve and update plant and microbial science teaching and learning;
Promote student awareness of careers in plant science;
Expand public plant science literacy to promote scientific literacy, including an understanding of relationships among frontier plant science, technology, and society.
In accordance with the current trend for educational internationalization, Academia Sinica set up the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) to attract young scholars to its campus for Ph.D. programs. In cooporation with the local universities, TIGP started to offer seven programs in 2004. All courses are conducted in English and research grants are available for qualified students.
Currently, four students are doing research for their advanced degrees under the guidance of several IPMB colleagues. "Advanced Plant Biology," organized by Dr. Na-Sheng Lin, was offered in the Fall semester 2005 starting from September 15, 2005.
Partnering with the Institute of Life Science of the National Defense Medical Center, Academia Sinica offers Ph.D. programs in various areas of the life sciences. Currently, colleagues of the IPMB offer three advanced courses: "Plant Growth and Development", "Photobiology", and "Advanced Plant Genetics". Eight students are doing research for their advanced degrees in IPMB.
As well, IPMB provides recent Ph.D. graduates with opportunities to broaden their scientific skills and participate in a variety of plant science research. Currently, as many as 33 international post-doctorial fellows are employed across our laboratory.
IPMB is also committed to inspiring the next generation of plant scientists and biologists through our education programs. Such programs provide a variety of educational enrichment experiences to inspire and motivate students to pursue science-related careers and outreach programs that share the excitement of scientific discovery with the public. A guiding project for high school elite students in life science studies has been conducted for last decade at IPMB. Details are available at the website http://www.sinica.edu.tw/~hispj/. |
