Transgenic plant laboratory is one of the core facilities of biotechnology program in Academia Sinica. The commission of this lab is supporting transgenic plant research for the whole campus. The establishment of this lab provides research facilities and services and also enhances the interaction of faculty, assistants and students among several Life Science Institutes, thereby enhances the effectiveness of the Biotechnology Program.

There is a committee, with 6 members from three Institutes, one specialist and, three research assistants in this lab.

Committee members:

  1. Yue-Ie Hsing -  Institute of Plant and Microbial Biology
  2. Wan-Hsing Cheng -  Institute of Plant and Microbial Biology
  3. Su-May Yu -  Institute of Molecular Biology
  4. Yi-Fang Tsay -  Institute of Molecular Biology
  5. Tzyy-Zen Chiou -  Agricultural biotechnology research center
  6. Yee-Yung Charng -  Agricultural biotechnology research center
Specialist:Lin-yun Kuang

Research assistants:
Ming-Chih Cheng, Chia-An Huang, Hsuan-Hsuan Wu

Facilities: There are several facilities available which offer instruments or culture spaces to researchers in biotechnology and biotechnology-related areas:

  1. Four walk-in growth chambers for aseptic culture
  2. One walk-in growth chamber for soil-grown plant
  3. Three microscopes
  4. Five laminar flow
  5. Two particle bombardment systems
  6. General lab facilities

Services:

This lab provides service to do the transformation of model plants, i.e. tobacco, Arabidopsis, tomato and rice. This lab helps collecting information about GMO issues, transformation methods for many plant species, etc. It also collects Agrobacterium strains, provides rice embryogenic callus, etc. The URL of this lab is: http://transplant.sinica.edu.tw
